Achimota School dinner/dance

Back view of crinkled hair. For some reason, my hair does better holding crinkles than it does curls. These crinkles will last until I next wash my hair.

(pls ignore the busy-ness in the background. I was in my husband's studio)

I went with my friends Anne and Lorraine to the Achimotans fund raising dinner/dance yesterday. Anne was exhibiting some Art work too, so I helped set up. I am wearing a KENTE cloth in a simple classic style. I crinkled my locs and put a matching flower in the side of it. Black shoes, black clutch-bag, black wrap(not in the pic)

I love, love, love your clothing. Is that one of the items that was for sale? If so, how can I get one?

You look gorgeous as ever. My locks don't curl either but can support the crinkle look.
Would love to contact you about Ghana as I'm looking for a link there. Please feel free to email oamartey@aol.com

No Nai, Anne does paintings. This was made in Ghana. A little history lesson-"Kente cloth"is a type of silk/cotton interwoven fabric & has its origin with the Akan people. It is a royal, sacred cloth worn only in times of extreme importance, the cloth of Queens&kings. Over time, the use of kente became more widespread, however its importance has remained and it is held in high esteem in the Akan family and the entire country of Ghana. It comes in many different colours each meaning something. E.g Yellow is preciousness, royalty, wealth, fertility. Heavens! Maybe I should have just done a separate post. Anyway, Do you want one made for you?
Thx Kreyola.
Brilocs, look for my email.

Oh, I would love that but I think the costs to ship (I'm in United States) would probably be a bit much. Thank you for the offer. I would have been honored. Love your hair.

LOL Chele. You step-by-step instructions.Truth be told I find it difficult to wear wraps myself.(The kind that is simple wrapped around you) All my african cloths are sewn into dresses or long skirt/top type outfits. What we call 'kaba and slit' I even insist on elastic at the waist of the traditinal skirts. In the kente above, the seamstress refused to use elastic and put in a drawstring haha! She felt I was letting the side down! I put comfort and security 1st-can't be walking somewhere and find my skirt lying somewhere having fallen off!
