Honestly...I tried so hard....

....to get consistent curls (like I see on your blogs). It took me 2 hrs to curl these and I had to re-wet my locs 2x. I used a combination of perm rods and soft spikes. I kept them in for 2 days. I had to go to church(- ok - prayer meeting at the church) with this humongous hat with all those rods underneath. My friend just about split her sides laughing at the sight of me. I endured all the hell you go through trying to sleep on hard rocks& lumps, even a shopping trip that had folks staring at my huge head. I banished every thought of 'why me?' 'this is too much' and fixated on the prize of wonderful curls to come..and I still haven't cracked it. Some locs curled, some simply fell and some- well- just laughed at me. Still, I thought I'd show my meagre offering. So here you are. Brought to you with love.

You should try pipe cleaners. I don't expect the curl to last longer than a day with your length but I'm sure you will get the curls you looking for. Plus you can walk around with them without looking all weird LOL ^_^.

Your hair is beautiful. Have you tried the piggy back set that I demonstrated in my blog? It is designed for longer hair so that you get more defined curls.

Thx for the suggestion Kreyola. I might have to revisit pipe cleaners.

I actually thought of doing the piggyback whilst I was putting the rods in. But it meant I would have to go look at your pg and the laptop was elsewhere so I soldiered on. I plan to come over to your blog and take a closer look how it's done. My question is...is it harder still to sleep in?

I feel you Ofo,
I also struggled to hold curls with my old set of locks. I found the best way to get even a trace of a curl, was to braid and then wrap each braid round my chosen curlers, whether pipe cleaners, soft spikes or actual curlers. The double whammy seemed to help.
With this set, I haven't tried curlers yet - I just cornrow and it gives me a bit of body and fullness - not so much curls.
Have a look at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watchv=KiqFpzSPoLk&list=PLD3AF692E644C3B45&index=1&feature=plcp. It's from Chescalocs and looks really effective. i haven't tried it as I think my locks are too short, but have a go and let's see!
PS: Still using my 'growing potion'. Will keep you updated x

I actually find it more comfortable to sleep in piggyback sets because with longer hair you have the option of not rolling the entire hair shaft up to your scalp (depending on the look you want)so when you lay down, your head/scalp is on the pillow while the rods hang.

Ofo I tend to get curls from braiding banding wash and condition in the braids then remove the next day. They tend to last longer this way. I am finding I am too lazy for curlers and cant stand any pain lol good luck

Really? That sounds ideal!

Seiwa how often are you using the potion? I'm finding even 1x a week hard unless I wash then apply the stuff. Mainly because I hate a greasy scalp!!! I'm hoping 1x10days will do lol.*sigh*
Chescalocs is good..I'll check out her vid. Do you know before locs I'd never have described myself as clueless when it comes to styling? Doing hair and styling are clearly 2 very distinct separate things.Hmmm..the things you discover about yourself ...

Ofo, you said 2x a week, so that's what I'm aiming for. Like you, I mix it in with equal amounts of my won concoction - rosemary, almond and neem oils, and some shea butter. Since sisterlocs, I don't like a greasy scalp either, but I'm keeping my eyes on the prize! I'm with you on another thing as well - before locs, I never really thought of myself as styling challenged, but I'm at a loss most of the time. It's worse because I'm in that 'awkward' stage where it's not short enough to be funky and not long enough to wear up. Of course it doesn't help that it's all sparse up top *sigh* Anyway, I've prayed for the restoration of my crowning glory, and I'm waiting to manifest the results. How's yours doing?

What does neem do? I hate the smell!!!I read somewhere that progesterone cream helps hair grow back...I've added it. What next I wonder?? Only a person in this situation can truly understand the frustration. Sometimes it lookS pretty good and growing nicely -to me, other times I think Ugh! especially after reTi. Mary assures me it's not as bad as I think, but I remember clearly when my hair was full and thick on top. I'm praying too. Only God truly knows what's gone on in the body, only he can fix it so I consider it done. Only a matter of time
